T H E M E T H O D S Hands-on is the operative word here at HOOPHOLE.
We think people should be active participants in their own learning adventures, not passive receptacles. Traditional classroom teaching techniques too often foster dependency, conformity, and competition. We prefer learning by doing, discovery, and self discipline, three activities that encourage freedom of expression and active, hands-on involvement in a supportive environment.
Experiential learning is the cornerstone of our teaching.
Participants learn through direct experience. Learning becomes an act of sharing among all members of a group, and sharing encourages collaboration and cooperation. Success is measured by what one does with what one has learned … and how such knowledge amplifies an individual's awareness, growth, and courage to adapt or change existing attitudes or behavior.
While each course, class, workshop, and retreat is unique in its approach to its subject, all utilize a rich variety of participative teaching techniques that may include any of the following:
~ field projects
~ storytelling
~ journal writing
~ group projects
~ meditation
~ demonstrations
~ forum discussions
~ photography
~ creative writing
~ drawing and painting
~ singing and dancing
~ cooking
~ improvisation
~ role playingHOOPHOLE believes permanent change involves two choices:
1. act on what you know ; or
2. listen to someone else tell you how to act.The first choice initiates genuine learning. The second is for those who prefer to remain passive spectators in the drama of their own lives.
HOOPHOLE welcomes everyone who chooses number one!
